The final day at work for Cheryl was the best. Many seemed genuinely sorry to lose her as their supervisor. All expressed heart felt wishes for a happy retirement. A few even wanted to come along as crew.

The potluck was amazing! These hard working, physically fit people do know how to keep up their energy levels in a most enjoyable way. I would have gone back for thirds if I had not been named the official photographer for this occasion.

What do you say to someone that has completed a 36 year endeavor? All the smiles and hugs and gifts and food said it better than any  words could ever express.

Even after Cheryl had left for the last time some of her coworkers  stopped by the house for a final hug and wish for future happiness.

On the next to the last day of Cheryl’s 36 year career with the US Postal Service I finally got to see the inner workings of the Main Post Office.

All due to following precise instructions to join a conspiracy that was well afoot! I had received a cryptic phone call a day earlier during which I learned of the plot with a dire warning to keep mum.

The Postmaster along with the managers and supervisors of the city had hatched a plan for a surprise luncheon to honor Cheryl’s contributions and efforts on behalf of the USPS.

Of course Cheryl knew something was up and kept me from my much needed beauty sleep the night before with a merciless interrogation. I stood fast and resisted all her techniques. Well, I might have given some odd bits of misinformation there at the last...She can be very persuasive...

As the long awaited hour finally arrived Cheryl was surprised and very pleased for the thoughtfulness of all involved. There was a noticeable nautical flavor and décor.

The speech was just right.

The gifts were many.

The beginning of the end. This is Cheryl’s last week of work for the Post Office….EVER!  And to top it off she only has to work a 4 day week. Proper Prior Planning.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we are promising each other that we will truly get organized soon. Today we have been finding odd bits of old paper and converting them to electrons on the computer and back-up harddrive. Stuff like, birth certificates, marriage license, Passports, Coast Guard documents, etc. A major contribution to global warming with all the electricity we’ve used this morning. Now if we can just remember which file we put what under.

Our next big challenge will be to not over indulge as we visit all the families. Cheryl is lining up quality time with her siblings over nice meals with a few beverages. I’m trying to get out of branding calves and wallowing in the springtime mud with mine. Of course, it might all just work out. We over eat and over party in California with Cheryl’s family and then go visit mine on the ranch in Canada and work it off. Mom said it snowed a foot up there this last week………

KLOOSH, what a mistress she is proving to be! The boatyard is very attentive and writes every  month. No “Dear Johns”  here, they all start with “Invoice.”  We do feel fortunate that we chose to have her stored inside for the winter with all the recent bad weather that Maine has had. Most of the work we had scheduled for the winter is progressing and should be completed by mid June when we get there.

We are ready for the cruising life. For evidence of this we have boat cards, a boat stamp, boat logo hats, boat logo shirts, and a SSCA Burgee. Show us an ocean!

Taxes! We gotta get some write offs. How about a boat? Oh, guess that won't work huh. Stop making money will work...........

But first a little road trip to Maine.... by way of California, then Alberta, Canada,  from Colorado.

Well... we heard from very reliable sources that:

"Ya just can't go straight from point A ta point B on a sailboat"

So we are practicing going a very long and inefficient route, we think it will serve us well in the future.

March 30, 2007  Met with the lawyer and got the process started on wills. (Probably a big waste of time since it sure looks like we will spend everything shortly). A few more addresses changed and minor details accomplished.  Medical appointments kept to keep our clean bills of health.

March 28, 2007    John sold the last rental property...Landlords no more. YAAAAAH!!
